Building a team
We have much work to do and so HIVHope is looking to build a team of dedicated people, who have a passion to reach the developing world with a message of hope in the face of HIV/AIDS.
HIVHope will provide you with the training you need to be effective in both working cross-culturally and HIV/AIDS. Having a background in HIV work or health care/health education is definitely not required, though it could be helpful. What is required is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to serving Him with your life. HIVHope is a faith based organization that is not denominational. Thus, we welcome people from a wide variety of Christian traditions.
Our focus is not on filling jobs but rather helping people discover their passion and gifting. Thus, we do not have a list of job openings. That being said, there are roles we are asking God to bring us people to address who have the necessary passion and gifts. How you fit into these roles may look different.
- Educator/Facilitator – Our Educator/Facilitators present seminars for nationals around the world. These seminars teach the facts about HIV/AIDS. As an HIVHope Educator, you will not only teach the facts of HIV/AIDS, but will lead participants in discussions that will empower them to discover and develop effective ways to motivate people in their culture to make choices that will keep them from becoming infected with HIV. This role involves significant travel to a wide variety of countries in Africa, Asia, South America, Russia, etc.
- HIV Researcher – It is vital that we stay current on the latest developments in HIV/AIDS research, treatment, prevention, and related issues. There is a great deal of information available through the internet and through networking with other organizations. As a researcher for HIVHope, you will help us stay up to date and keep the HIVHope team informed. This role does not necessarily require a great deal of travel and can be done from a base in the US, preferably at our headquarters in Fort Myers, Florida.
- Researcher – Research is needed to determine how effective our approach to HIV prevention really is, and to identify ways we can improve. The results of the research will also be used to assist us in qualifying for grants which will allow expansion of our work. As a researcher, you will help HIVHope continue to improve, making a lasting impact on the epidemic and the Kingdom of God.
- Grant Writer – A great deal of grant money is available for HIV prevention, education, and ministry. With that help, there is so much more we could do. We need someone with experience in grant writing (or someone willing to gain experience in this area – as we currently have no one on staff in this role) to help us understand grants, the type of information we need to gather and the steps we should take to become eligible for grant funds.
- AIDS Treatment – Hundreds of thousands of people are living with HIV around the world who do not have access to the medications that could keep them alive. Those working in HIV treatment would likely live in a country hard hit by this disease and build relationships between those who are infected and those who can provide access to necessary treatments. This is a field missionary position requiring a minimum three year commitment.
- Church mobilizer – Too often, the church continues to stigmatize people living with HIV. As a church mobilizer, you would help local churches to see that HIV/AIDS offers an outstanding opportunity to demonstrate the love of Christ to a hurting world. Understanding and education can build bridges between the church and those living with HIV. This results in people coming into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ and enriching the life of the church as it lives out the Gospel. Though not required, this can be a wonderful role for an ordained minister because of the level of respect and credibility it provides in so many cultures.
- Your passion and gifting – This list is not exhaustive because we are open to God expanding HIVHope in any way He chooses. Please contact us to let us know how you see God using you. Let’s talk about how you might fit into our team.
We are a missionary organization and an outreach of New Mission Systems International (NMSI). Each member of the team depends on God to provide their own financial support through churches, friends, and family members. If this is where God wants you to be, He can provide the resources you will need.
Let’s talk!
